Trays, Body Doubling, Sunscreen

Welcome friends and readers:

Happy Summer! I hope you have found some time to enjoy all things summer like our amazing lakeshore, farmers markets, long walks, peaches and cherries and the days that seem to go on forever. While my summer goal has been to spend as little time inside as possible, I did repaint my closet and rethink the space after finding and bringing home a great dresser left on my neighbor’s curb. You can never underestimate the power of a fresh coat of paint! Here are a few things I have been thinking about lately and a video I can’t stop watching….

Trays

Last week as I was making a charcuterie board, it struck me that no matter how visually disparate the items were: a wedge of cheese, spilling berries, crusty bread, when placed on a tray they became unified- even beautiful. Put simply, a tray takes multiple like or unlike items and turns them into one element. Whenever we are able to simplify and reduce our visual clutter, our space instantly becomes more peaceful. One of my favorite uses for a tray is in the kitchen to corral items in heavy rotation such as olive oil, salt and pepper and wooden spoons. Rather than looking messy on your counter, the tray creates an intentional spot that can both protect your counter from stains and streamline your cooking. Other items that I have confined to trays and would recommend….remote controls, dish soap and scrub brush, jewelry, toiletries, perfume, keys, loose change, home decor and plants.

Body Doubling

Recently, I was working with a client with ADHD when they explained that they were able to stay more focused and get more done when others were around. Known as “body doubling,” this strategy uses a friend, family member or professional’s presence as motivation to stay focused and on-task. Although this strategy was initially used in ADHD communities, I can attest that it can be extremely helpful for all. Interestingly, working alongside others can help you stay motivated whether you're working together or independently. Just like a running buddy or a study partner, editing, decluttering and organizing your space with another can be transformative.

Sunscreen

As someone who loves to be outside but has had more than one freckle removed, I now faithfully put on sunscreen each morning. I have never liked the feeling of sunscreen, too sticky, greasy, and all around uncomfortable. My newest finds, however, have none of those qualities. They are lightweight, disappear when rubbed in and are all spf 50 or higher. My two favorites for the body are from Japan, Skin Aqua and Nivea water gel, and can be ordered from online sites. They almost feel too good to be true. Recently, a client gifted me her favorite sunscreen from Korea and I have been using it on my face and loving it as well. As one reviewer stated, “This stuff is GOLD!!”

As always please feel free to share and pass along and let me know of topics you would love to see discussed.
